Definition:
to hide or avoid the problem instead of dealing with (tackling, handling, coping with, fixing) it.
 

e.g.
The doctor was accused of sweeping the sex scandal under the rug. The victim will certainly take legal action against him. 
(那位醫生被指控刻意隱瞞這件性醜聞。其受害者定會訴諸公堂來制裁他。)
